WHAT IS THE “WISP DIRECTORY”?

The WISP Directory stands for “Worldwide Indie & Small Press Directory”, which lists Christian Indie Fiction and Christian Fiction from small presses that are not covered in the monthly new release promotions elsewhere on Soul Inspirationz.

WHO IS THE WISP DIRECTORY FOR?

The WISP Directory is essentially for readers to discover good quality Christian fiction published either independently or with small presses. The Level Criteria within the directory helps the reader to determine whether a title is suitable for them to read or not, based on things such as previous reader reviews, author endorsements, and award nominations. It is also for authors of Indie and Small Press Christian fiction to be a platform to list their titles on.

WHY THE WISP DIRECTORY?

Outside of randomly finding Indie & Small Press Christian fiction by browsing online bookstores, via email promotions, and social media etc, there is room for a specialist directory suited to an audience who loves to read Christian fiction. Combined with reader reviews and the activity on the Soul Inspirationz Community Forum, readers of Christian fiction have another “go-to” place in the WISP Directory to search out and discover Indie and Small Press Christian fiction.

HOW DOES THE WISP DIRECTORY WORK?

Titles in the WISP Directory are categorised in two different ways. Firstly, by genre – in particular, Contemporary,Historical, or Speculative – and secondly, by Level Criteria.

The Level Criteria determines the quality of the title as determined by things such as reader reviews, author endorsements, and award nominations. As long as the title is deemed to be Christian fiction, it can be listed in the directory, starting at Level 1. However, the more reader reviews and other criteria a title has, the higher up the Levels it will climb. This criteria helps a reader determine if a title has been enjoyed by other readers.

However, a title sitting at Level 1 with no reviews doesn’t necessarily mean it’s poorly written – it just hasn’t had sufficient positive reader feedback on it yet. At the same time, a title at Level 1 with many poor reviews isn’t going to climb any higher – but it is still welcome to be listed in the directory.

Andrew Roberts has picked out the perfect Christmas present–an engagement ring. His Christmas wish is to marry the woman he loves. But where has she gone?

Andy hasn’t felt such anticipation for Christmas day since he was five years old. This year he has plans, life-changing plans. He is going to propose to Allyson Flanders, the woman of his dreams. He’d lived his first thirty years as a confirmed bachelor, contented with dating, managing the family’s fleet of ships, fishing, and sailing anywhere he wanted, whenever he wanted.

Until . . . One date with Allyson, and Andy was hopelessly caught by the smartest, kindest, most beautiful woman he’d ever met. He had no complaints. Life with Allyson was better than anything he’d ever imagined. They spent hours of every day together, casting lines into the waters off the shore of Martha’s Vineyard, talking, laughing, and dreaming. He hadn’t spent a day without being in Allyson’s company.

Until . . . Something happened after Thanksgiving. Something he can’t figure out. Something he can’t name. But that something has created more distance than a two-month sail from Vineyard Haven Harbor to Sri Lanka. Allyson has no time for him, barely speaks to him, and makes secret plans without him. The diamond and sapphire ring resting in the black velvet box looks lonely, but not as lonely as Andy feels. Where is she spending her time? Why doesn’t she return his phone calls? Has she found someone else? Is there any hope his Christmas wish might still come true?

So when Maggie purchases plane tickets for them to join her in a vacation on the Gulf of Mexico, they almost decline the offer.

Circumstances force the issue, and the sisters find themselves first thrown together, then ultimately drawn together, in one memorable week in a cabin called Seaside. As Maggie sets out to photograph the faces and moods of her overachieving daughters, more than photos develop. A picture emerges of possibilities that come only by slowing down and savoring the simple treasures of the moment.

It takes a mother’s love and honesty to teach hers daughters a wiser, uncluttered way of life—one that can bring peace to their hearts and healing to their relationships. And though the lesson comes on wings of grief, the sadness is tempered with faith, restoration, and a joy that comes from the hand of God.

In the rich back drop of the farming cradle of the Ohio Valley, a peaceful lifestyle seems possible. Highly likely … at least on the surface. It’s 1973. And three young women want to discover their place in this male dominated world.

In spite of the economic slowdown Roberta “Birdie” Alexander is determined their family business will both survive and thrive. She’ll back up that promise with hard work, and Alexander’s foliage will become the standard for all of the Ohio Valley. Because if she works long enough and hard enough, her father will love her as much as he loves her older brothers. But Birdie’s dad seems determined to marry her off.

Sara Brubaker, an only child, was two-years-old when an Old Order German Baptist couple adopted her. She’s become a beautiful woman, and works as secretary for Alexander’s Nursery and Greenhouse. Now she’s torn between wanting to live in the normal world of fun and fashion, and joining the Dunkards to truly belong with her adoptive family.

Irene West, Birdie’s lifelong Sunday school friend, misses having a father figure around … where is he anyway? She’s become very boy crazy, which causes Birdie to struggle with the friendship and Irene to struggle with life.

The three struggle to find their true identity, dreams, and paths in Christ. Can they forgive their fathers and find the courage to grab hold of a new dream?

A time to live. A time to die. A time to dream.

Sleep disorders specialist Kennedy Plain has been diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. When her research subject dies after trying to convince her he has achieved dream-induced time travel and her study is shelved, she enlists herself as a subject to complete her research. But when she dreams herself into 14th-century England and falls into the hands of Fulke Wynland, a man history has condemned as a murderer, she must not only stay alive long enough to find a way to return to her own time, but prevent Fulke from murdering his young nephews. And yet, the more time she spends with the medieval warrior, the more difficult it is to believe he is capable of committing the heinous crime for which he has been reviled for 600 years.

Baron Fulke Wynland has been granted guardianship of his brother’s heirs despite suspicions that he seeks to steal their inheritance. When the king sends a mysterious woman to care for the boys, Fulke is surprised by the lady’s hostility toward him–and more surprised to learn she is to be his wife. But when his nephews are abducted, the two must overcome their mutual dislike to discover the boys’ fate. What Fulke never expects is to feel for this woman whose peculiar speech, behavior, and talk of dream travel could see her burned as a witch.

One Woman. Two Men.
One stirs her pulse and the other her faith.
But who will win her heart?

Marceline Murphy is a gentle beauty with a well-founded aversion to rogues. But when two of Boston’s most notorious pursue her, she encounters a tug-of-war of the heart she isn’t expecting. Sam O’Rourke is the childhood hero she’s pined for, the brother of her best friend and a member of the large, boisterous family to which she longs to be a part. So when his best friend Patrick O’Connor joins in pursuit of her affections, the choice seems all too clear. Sam is from a family of faith and Patrick is not, two rogues whose wild ways clash head-on with Marcy’s—both in her faith and in her heart.

While overseeing the Christmas play fundraiser for the St. Mary’s parish soup kitchen—A Light in the Window—Marcy not only wrestles with her attraction to both men, but with her concern for their spiritual welfare. The play is based on the Irish custom of placing a candle in the window on Christmas Eve to welcome the Holy Family, and for Marcy, its message becomes deeply personal. Her grandmother Mima cautions her to guard her heart for the type of man who will respond to the “light in the window,” meaning the message of Christ in her heart. But when disaster strikes during the play, Marcy is destined to discover the truth of the play’s message first-hand when it becomes clear that although two men have professed their undying love, only one has truly responded to “the light in the window.”

Could you fall in love despite the great risk of losing the one you cherish most?

Hoping for a fresh start, Hannah Wright moves to Springhill, the hometown of the father she never knew because he died in their volatile coal mines before she was born. She tracks down her aunt, Abigail Percy, and is immediately welcomed to move in with the whole Percy clan. This includes her Uncle Ray, a coal miner, and their four lively children. Suddenly, she’s surrounded by more family than she’s ever had in her life.

The day after she arrives, the mine explodes, trapping many underground, including Uncle Ray. Little did Hannah know when she set off on this new adventure how much her family was going to need her. When the Percys face a sudden lack of provision, Hannah knows she must get a job to help them. But the only industry in town that pays enough is coal mining–and the mine company doesn’t hire women.

Hannah secretly masquerades as a man and gets hired as Mel, a distant cousin of her father’s. Keeping up her charade is challenging in this tight-knit, 1950s town, where everybody knows one another.

Hannah is placed on the team of Josh Winslow, a handsome bachelor who noticed her the moment she stepped into town. It doesn’t take long for Josh to see through Hannah’s disguise as Mel, but she convinces him there’s no other way for her to help take care of her family. Understanding the pressure she’s under, he agrees to not blow Hannah’s cover–for now.

Though Hannah seems to keep Josh at arm’s length, he’s determined to chip away at her defenses and win her heart. She resists, afraid to love someone who could die at any moment in an accident underground.

Long-time miners start to sense that “the big one” is coming. Calling it a “Bump” does little to calm Hannah’s fear of the impending underground earthquake, a disaster that could come any day.

Will Josh and Hannah be among the next miners caught in a catastrophic disaster? Does Hannah stand to lose everything she’s worked so hard to rebuild?

Song of Springhill is a love story set against the backdrop of true-life disasters that plagued the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia in the 1950s. It was a town torn by tragedy that also experienced some of the most astounding, miraculous rescues the world ever watched unfold.

A Hometown Romance Novel

A new cowboy romance from award-winning author Kathleen Y’Barbo.

Trey’s biggest challenge isn’t performing surgery…it’s restoring Sessa’s heart!

Artist Sessa Chambers may never recover from losing her prodigal son. Even as she grieves the tragic decisions that led to his death, and left her with a toddler to raise, she’s asked to work on her dream project—restoring carousel horses for the Smithsonian. But she can’t do it on her own…

Dr. Trey Brown can’t pick up a scalpel again. Yes, he acted in self-defense, but the events of that awful night haunt him. He was trained to save lives, not take them. When he goes to the young man’s widowed mother to apologize, she’s not at all what he expected. For one thing, she’s not as alone as he thought—not with the fearsome ladies of the Pies, Books, and Jesus Book Club in her corner. For another, she’s beautiful, and being in her presence is more jolting than any eight-second bronco ride from his former rodeo days. Before he knows it, she’s captured his heart as easily as they capture the fireflies gracing Sessa’s Texas ranch.

How can they overcome their past to embrace a future together?
