Living with a neglectful mother caused many of Miriam’s dreams to be discarded in the twisted journey of her life. The only sanctuary she ever knew was the loving foster home where she spent her happiest years and the closest she came to real family with parents and a foster brother.

Losing his wife and daughter in a careless accident would have broken Duncan Tiemstra had it  not been for the support of his family and friends in Holmes Crossing. Now, in the aftermath of the death of his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Jared, he has discovered he and Miriam Bristol, a love from his past, are co-guardian of his niece, Celia. But his niece is almost the same age as the daughter he lost and caring for her would be a painful reminder.

What none of the family knows is that Celia, adopted as a infant, is the also baby Miriam gave up at a very dark time in her life. While Miriam would love to have a second chance with Celia and, if she were honest, with Duncan she knows he will never understand the circumstances that brought her to give her daughter up. Nor does she think she can be a suitable mother for Celia.

Duncan and Miriam reluctantly agree, for Celia’s sake, to work together at least until her birthday and the coming Christmas season are past. As they work together their attraction for each other returns and the possibility of a family with Celia tempts Miriam.

But can their changing relationship survive the dark secret that Miriam harbors? A secret that could drive Miriam away from Duncan, Celia and This Place.

About the Author

CAROLYNE AARSEN is a blessed to have sincere Christian parents and to be married to a committed Christian husband. But her first love was always fiction.

Because of her isolation from any kind of writing group, Carolyne learned to write by trial and error and by taking correspondence courses while she and her husband were raising their four natural children and the numerous foster children that came through their home. She documented the fun and foibles of their life in a weekly humor column carried in a number of Alberta newspapers.

In April 1997 she was thrilled to hear that her hard work had paid off with a contract with Steeple Hill Love Inspired books. EVER FAITHFUL, her second book for the Love Inspired line, won the Toronto Romance Writers Golden Opportunity Contest for unpublished writers. Her ninth book, TWIN BLESSINGS, received four-and-a-half stars from Romantic Times Magazine. Since then she has published a number of books. Her stories reflect a love of God, family, rural Canadian life and a profound appreciation of God's creation and how He constantly calls His children to Himself. She hopes and prays that in her writing she can show how people's weaknesses are covered by Christ's strength. Her dream is to make Christ's sacrifice accessible to people of all ages and places through the lives of her characters.

Though she grew up in a city, she considers herself a full-fledged country person. When she's not writing, she's helping her husband with his logging business, their herd of cows, their horses and their chickens that managed to escape the clutches of the coyotes and owls. They are also involved with the youth in their church. You can find her website at www.carolyneaarsen.com
